Here is a basic summary of how Hot Desking works:
1) The Hot Desking 'controls' are available to account administrators, this is not controlled in the User Portal.
2) You can find these controls under each user configuration page, under the 'Hot Desking' tab.
3) Each user that wishes to use this feature needs to be assigned a unique 'Hot Desking' code.
4) To log into any phone on the system, dial *11 (or *11# to 'send' the call right away), and enter your 'Hot Desking' code.
5) To log out from a device, dial *12 (or *12# to 'send' the call right away). The system will let you know that you will no longer receive calls at that device.
6) When you log into a phone, you effectively 'take over' from whatever user was previously assigned to that phone. Inbound calls for you will ring that phone, and when you dial out, your callerID will be displayed on both internal and outside calls. This means that you can log into any unused phone on the system, you do not need to keep a pool of 'blank' phones sitting around.
7) If you check the 'Check if you want to stay logged in' box, then calls will ring ALL devices you have logged into. If this is unchecked, then you can only be logged into one device at a time. When you log into a new device, the system will remove the old device from your use.
8) Calls that are routed to your user account will ring all devices you are logged into, as well as any devices that are permanently assigned to you.
9) The account administrator can check, under each user's configuration page, which devices that user is currently logged into via 'Hot Desking'.
