For second-hand phones, it is recommended that you reset the phone to factory defaults to wipe all previous configurations and settings. Polycom has three possible options for factory resets:
"Reset Local Config" - reset the locally saved user settings. If the phone was only used previously in a standard, minimal configuration, this is the best way to reset the phone. This is the safest reset option.
"Reset Device Settings" - erases the flash. This removes all the settings that can be modified via the "Setup" when the phone first boots. These settings include boot server, DHCP servers, syslog servers, etc. Note: Please see below. Do not attempt this with a previously configured phone.
"Reset Web Configuration" - removes any information set via the phone's WWW interface.
"Format file system" - deletes the application software on the phone, as well as line configuration settings. The flash remains intact. You must point the phone at a boot server in order to download a new application file and to be able to use the phone.
Restoring Factory Defaults (Reset Device Settings)
Press Menu on your Polycom phone.
Navigate to Settings --> Advanced. You will be prompted for a password. The default is "456", but this may have been changed by your administrator.
From Admin Settings, navigate to Reset to Default. Choose the appropriate setting from above either "Reset Local Configuration" (recommended), "Reset Web Configuration" (also recommended) "Reset Device Settings", or "Format File System"
For most phones this means:
Hit the "Menu" button
3. Settings
2. Advanced
"456" {password} Hit the "Enter" soft key at the bottom
1. Admin Settings
5. Reset to Defaults...
Choose reset option from the list
For the key combination, press and hold certain key combinations (depending
on the phone model) simultaneously during the countdown process in the
bootROM until the password prompt appears:
- IP 301, 501, 550, 600, 601, and 650, and 670: 4, 6, 8 and * dial pad keys
IP 320, 321, 330, 331, 335, 430, 450, 560, 7000: 1, 3, 5, and 7 dial pad keys - IP 4000 and 6000: 6, 8 and * dial pad keys
- VVX Phones: 1, 3, and 5
In order to factory reset follow using the key combinations below:
- Reboot the Phone—Press and hold the dial pad keys 0, 1, and 3 simultaneously for about three seconds, or until you hear a confirmation tone.
- Restore Factory Defaults—Press and hold the dial pad keys as noted above simultaneously during the Updater process until the password prompt appears. Enter the administrator password to initiate the reset. Resetting to factory defaults will also reset the administrator password to 456.
*If you see "loading application" and no countdown on your screen, select "cancel" and you'll be able to see the countdown.
Note: See below - do not attempt this with previously configured phones. Enter the administrator password to initiate the reset. Resetting to factory defaults will also reset the administrator password (factory default password is 456).
